Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon, Defying Trump's Warning and Threatening Peace

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have surged after Israeli forces reportedly launched air strikes on southern Lebanon on Wednesday (17/6/2026). The military action came despite a stern warning from US President Donald Trump and risks derailing the peace process currently being pursued by Washington with Iran. According to reports from Lebanese media and Al Jazeera Arabic, Israeli forces carried out air strikes in the Nabatieh district and a series of raids in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa. He also criticised Israeli military tactics as unnecessary, particularly the practice of bombing entire apartment blocks to hunt militants. The sharp criticism from the White House signals a shift in the dynamic between the two allied nations.
