Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon Again, Killing 7
Israeli strikes again hit southern Lebanon in the early hours of Saturday (15/8) local time. At least seven people were killed and three others wounded in the latest assault by the Tel Aviv military.
This was the highest death toll since an agreement reached in June had briefly eased tensions between Israel and the Hezbollah group, which is based in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s official news agency, the National News Agency (NNA), as reported by AFP on Saturday (15/8/2026), said Israel “intensified its attacks on the southern region” in the early hours of Saturday.
The NNA said that “the attack was carried out by a number of enemy warplanes against a house” on the outskirts of the village of Ansar.
“Killing seven people and wounding three others,” the NNA said in its report.
The NNA reported that the strike destroyed the house in the area, and rescue teams were evacuating the rubble and taking the victims to hospital.
The NNA report also stated that: “Israeli warplanes launched a series of air strikes targeting the Ali al-Taher ridge.”
Ali al-Taher is a strategic hill area overlooking the Nabatieh region. The NNA reported Israeli artillery fire at the site. The Israeli military had previously stated that Hezbollah fighters were hiding inside “underground terror infrastructure” in the Ali al-Taher ridge area.
The NNA added that “the valley between Ansar and Zarariyeh was also targeted”.
“This is the first attack to reach that deep into the territory since the ceasefire two months ago,” the NNA said in its report.
Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into the Middle East conflict by launching rocket attacks on Israel in early March as a show of support for its main backer, Iran.
Israel responded with waves of air strikes and a ground invasion of Lebanon, which according to Beirut authorities has killed more than 4,300 people.
The level of violence declined significantly since a memorandum of understanding was signed by Iran and the United States in June, as well as a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by Washington, reached at the end of the same month.
However, Lebanon still reports sporadic Israeli strikes that occasionally cause casualties, and the large-scale destruction of civilian buildings in villages and towns in the country’s southern region.
