Israel Strikes Lebanon Despite Ceasefire, Claims 900 Hezbollah Members Killed

Israeli military continues to strike Lebanon despite a ceasefire that took effect last April. Israel claims to have killed 900 Hezbollah members. According to Al Jazeera on Monday, 1 June 2026, the Israeli military stated that its forces have attacked dozens of Hezbollah sites since Sunday morning local time, targeting weapon storage facilities and Hezbollah infrastructure. ‘In line with the progress of (Israeli) operations in the Beaufort Ridge area, today’s strikes targeted Hezbollah weapon storage facilities, guarded command centres, and additional infrastructure in the Tyre region and other parts of southern Lebanon,’ they said in a Telegram post. The ceasefire to halt fighting between Israel and Tehran-backed Hezbollah officially came into effect on 17 April but has never been adhered to. Both sides have accused each other of violating the truce and justifying their attacks based on alleged breaches by the other. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam previously accused Israel of implementing a ‘scorched earth’ policy in the south of the country. Lebanon’s Health Ministry recently reported that 3,412 people have been killed and 10,269 injured since the conflict began on 2 March 2026.
