Israel Strikes Gaza During Ceasefire, 5 Killed

Israeli airstrikes struck the Gaza Strip on Tuesday (26 May) local time. At least five people were killed in the latest Israeli assault in the Palestinian enclave while a ceasefire was still in effect. The Gaza Strip continues to experience daily violence, with the Israeli military and Hamas accusing each other of ceasefire violations since it came into effect on 10 October 2025. The latest Israeli airstrike, reported by AFP on Tuesday (26 May 2026), hit the Al-Maghazi area in central Gaza. “Five martyrs and several injured were transported (to hospital) after Israeli airstrikes targeted a group of civilians in eastern Al-Maghazi,” according to a statement from Gaza’s Civil Defence, which operates as a rescue service under Hamas. Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital and Palestinian security sources confirmed the latest Israeli attack and the death toll. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it was investigating the report. The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has been in effect since last October, but Israel reserves the right to strike targets it deems a threat. According to Gaza Health Ministry data, at least 904 Palestinians have been killed in a series of attacks across the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire was implemented last year. The Gaza Health Ministry operates under Hamas authority, but its figures are considered reliable by the United Nations (UN). On the Israeli side, the Israeli military said five of its soldiers had died during the same period.
