Israel Seizes GSF Fleet Carrying Indonesian Citizens and Journalists, Hamas: This is Piracy

The Islamic Resistance Movement in Palestine, Hamas, has asserted that the attacks carried out by the Israeli Navy against the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian ships constitute a clear act of piracy. The vessels had previously departed from the coast of Türkiye on a humanitarian mission to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.

In a press statement received by the Yemen News Agency (Saba) on Monday (18/5/2026), Hamas strongly condemned the attack and the subsequent arrest of humanitarian activists aboard the ships. “The fascist enemy government continues to commit violations against solidarity activists. This is despite the fact that they are performing a humanitarian and moral duty to support Gaza and its besieged people, who are currently facing a war of extermination, famine, and a continuous blockade before the eyes of the world,” the official Hamas statement read.

In response to the incident, Hamas has called upon all nations, the United Nations, and international human rights and humanitarian organisations to strongly condemn this crime. The movement urged that Israeli leaders be held accountable for repeated violations of international law and demanded the immediate release of the detained activists.

Hamas also emphasised the importance of concrete international action to immediately end the illegal blockade that is causing suffering to more than two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

At the conclusion of its statement, Hamas expressed its highest appreciation and respect to the humanitarian activists who have brought the message of Gaza to the global stage, admiring their persistence in challenging Israeli arrogance and fascism. Hamas called for similar Freedom Flotilla missions and global resistance actions to continue in support of the Palestinian people to defend the values of justice and human dignity, until the blockade collapses and the occupation ends.
