Israel reportedly seeks US approval to expand attacks on Beirut, Lebanon, according to Jerusalem Post citing senior Israeli officials. The request comes as Israel escalates military operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. On Sunday, Israeli Defence Minister Katz stated that the military had taken control of Beaufort Castle, a medieval fortress in southern Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then ordered the military to expand operations against Hezbollah and strengthen control over areas in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Lebanon and Israel held direct ambassador-level talks for the first time in Washington on 16 April. Following the meeting, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement. However, despite the announced deal, Israel continues to launch attacks on dozens of settlements in southern Lebanon. Israel is also reported to maintain dominance in attacks on border areas. In response, Hezbollah continues its military operations against Israeli forces.
