Israel Raids Al-Aqsa Mosque Again, HNW Urges OIC to Take Action
HNW urged the Palestinian Authority and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to mobilise their member states and the international community to take action and take concrete steps to protect and save the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the threat of occupation.
He also highlighted the barbaric provocations carried out by Israeli Zionists and their allies against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“The actions of the Zionists are clearly very provocative, they are no longer ashamed to claim control over the Al-Aqsa mosque area by repeatedly and arrogantly violating the agreement of the international community that the Al-Aqsa Mosque must be protected as a heritage and place of worship for Muslims,” he said in a written statement, Friday (15/5/2026).
HNW mentioned several international agreements as the basis that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship for Muslims. First, the UNESCO resolution - an organ of the United Nations (UN) that deals with cultural and educational affairs - has designated the Al-Aqsa Mosque as a heritage and sacred Islamic site since 2016.
In fact, going further back to 1930, a commission formed by Britain with the approval of the League of Nations (before the formation of the UN) resolved a dispute between Jews and Muslims regarding the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) in the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex.
The case, handled by three legal experts from Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands, affirmed that Muslims have sole ownership of the Western Wall because the wall is an integral part of the Haram-esh-Sherif (Al-Aqsa Mosque) area, which is the property of the Islamic waqf.
In addition, the Commission also decided that Jews were given access to worship at the Western Wall, but there were several prohibitions that had to be obeyed, such as a prohibition on using the area around the wall for speeches, making political statements and demonstrating.
“Bein-Gvir’s actions in provoking and flying the Israeli flag in the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex clearly violate this international agreement,” he said.
In fact, HNW added, based on the Washington Declaration in 1994, accompanied by the Wadi Araba agreement between Jordan and Israel, Israel also acknowledged and respected the presence of the Kingdom of Jordan in managing the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in Jerusalem.
Therefore, legally, the party authorised to manage the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the Jordanian government through the Jordanian Ministry of Waqf and Religious Affairs.
“This provocation by Israeli Zionists clearly violates previous international agreements,” he said.
HNW urged the OIC, which was formed to save the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to play a more advanced and concrete role by working with international communities to ensure that all international agreements regarding the status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque could still be enforced.
“This is a very big and urgent task that must be completed by the OIC together with its member states, including Jordan, which has been given the authority as the manager of the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said.
Furthermore, HNW emphasised that this issue must be dealt with seriously because it could have an impact on peace and stability in the region.
“If violations of international law against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is sacred to Muslims, are not immediately addressed properly, this will further justify the view of Palestinian resistance groups that dialogue will not lead to peace because it is always violated by Israel, but only armed resistance can stop the ‘Flag March’ provocation that is being carried out again by Israeli Zionists,” he said.
HNW hopes that the Palestinian Authority, which affirms the legal rights to Al-Quds and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and strongly rejects Israeli terror and claims against them, can increase its role in protecting and liberating the Al-Aqsa Mosque from Israeli Zionist control.
He also hopes that the Palestinian Authority can embrace all factions in Palestine to unite and work together with the OIC and other international bodies in efforts to protect and save the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“So it doesn’t just stop at the strongest condemnation, as has been conveyed by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but also takes concrete action by forging unity and collaboration with all factions, including those in the Gaza Strip who are still fighting to protect their territory from Israeli occupation with all its limitations,” he said.
In addition, HNW also urged the Indonesian government together with the OIC to ensure that dialogue and all existing agreements regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque can continue to run and be well obeyed.
“So that lasting peace can truly be realised, without the need for more casualties among civilians. This can only be realised if all parties, especially Israel, either voluntarily or under pressure from the international community, comply with agreements and international law, including those related to the city of Al-Quds and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, if they are truly sincere and serious about bringing peace to the region,” he concluded.
