Negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran have ended in deadlock. The US ally, Israel, has given signals that it may resume strikes against Iran.

Several Israeli ministers have hinted at the possibility of resuming attacks on Iran. Israel’s Energy Minister, Eli Cohen, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Monday (13/4/2026), stated that Tehran could be attacked if no agreement is reached.

“The nuclear issue is international, and it is good that (US President Donald) Trump has set a red line on this matter,” Cohen said in an interview with the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth on Sunday (12/4) local time.

“If there is no agreement, Iran can be attacked,” he emphasised.

Regarding Lebanon, where the Israeli military has expanded strikes targeting Hezbollah, Cohen suggested that Tel Aviv should not only attack military forces but also Lebanese facilities and infrastructure.

“I have said this in the cabinet. I do not see a high chance of success for these negotiations,” he stated, as Tel Aviv and Beirut agreed to hold their first meeting in Washington DC on Tuesday (14/4) to secure a ceasefire and begin direct dialogue.

Israel’s Economy Minister, Nir Barkat, in an interview with Channel 14, claimed that the US would achieve its goals in the war against Iran.

“Iranian officials do not understand the determination of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. We will go back to war and achieve our goals,” Barkat said.

In a separate post on social media platform X, Israel’s Minister of Culture and Sport, Miki Zoha, stated that “Washington’s firmness in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons reflects coordination with Israel.”

He claimed that the US and Israel would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Previously, marathon negotiations lasting 21 hours in Islamabad, with Pakistan as mediator, to finalise a ceasefire between the US and Iran failed to reach an agreement.

The US has since resolved to blockade the Strait of Hormuz. This has further increased tensions in the Middle East.
