Israel Launches Massive Missile Strikes on Lebanon, 12 Killed
The Israeli military launched a massive wave of airstrikes that struck several areas in southern Lebanon on Wednesday (10/06/2026). The brutal bombardment, which targeted as far as the port city of Sidon, reportedly killed at least 12 civilians after the militant group Hezbollah formally rejected a new draft conditional ceasefire proposal.
Quoting Reuters, this new escalation of fighting immediately dashed hopes for peace previously pursued in diplomatic talks in Washington last week. The agreement reached a major impasse because Tel Aviv refused to include a point on halting Israeli military attacks within the peace treaty clauses. Consequently, the warring parties chose to continue exchanging missile fire along the border line.
Massive fires and thick black smoke were reported billowing into the sky moments after Israeli jet fighters and combat drones released high-explosive munitions. Rescue teams and firefighters rushed to the explosion sites to evacuate victims from the rubble of buildings and burnt-out vehicles.
“The number of martyrs from the Israeli airstrike in the town of Tayr Dibba is eight people, and in Deir Qanun al-Nahr four people,” asserted a Lebanese medical source speaking on condition of anonymity regarding the death toll in the incident.
This condition immediately triggered an urgent appeal from an association of Christian border villages in southern Lebanon who have chosen to remain in their homes despite Israeli evacuation orders. They urged the Lebanese government to immediately open safe humanitarian and medical corridors because most main road access routes have now been completely severed by Israeli bombardments that gravely endanger lives.
Historically, Hezbollah began dragging Lebanon into the vortex of the Middle East war beginning on 2 March, in order to provide military support to Iran. Lebanese authorities have recorded that the series of air and ground assaults launched by Israel since last March have killed nearly 3,700 people and forced more than one million residents to flee their hometowns.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that the Israeli military also launched a drone attack targeting a car in the city of Sidon. This area had previously been relatively untouched by major assaults and currently serves as a shelter for a large number of Lebanese internally displaced persons.
Tensions on the ground escalated further after Israeli infantry forces abducted a Kfarshuba city council member named Mohammad Hassan al-Hajj along with a local worker named Ahmad Salah Diab. The two men were suddenly ambushed while working to pump clean water supplies for the needs of residents in the border town.
However, the Tel Aviv military issued a written statement claiming the harsh action was a form of territorial security against potential infiltrator threats. The army claimed it merely secured individuals detected moving near their military operation area.
“The soldiers captured the suspected individuals, who were then transferred to Israeli territory to undergo further interrogation,” the Israeli military clarified in their official statement to AFP media in Jerusalem.
This unilateral arrest incident occurred just one day after an Israeli air assault killed 11 people around the city of Tyre. The Israeli military is also continuing to expand its combat range by dropping bombs in the city of Nabatieh and issuing forced evacuation orders for three other towns in southern Lebanon.
