According to AFP, Sunday (17/5/2026), the Israeli attacks were preceded by evacuation warnings covering nine villages. The ongoing bombings only increase scepticism about the ceasefire among the thousands of Lebanese civilians displaced from their homes.

The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported attacks on more than two dozen villages on Saturday, including one village located more than 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the border.

NNA also reported a new exodus of residents towards the southern city of Sidon and the capital Beirut.

On Friday, both countries agreed to extend the ceasefire for 45 days, which began on April 17, but it has been marred by numerous violations.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he welcomed the extension of the ceasefire. He urged all parties to fully respect the cessation of hostilities.

Although the ceasefire has been in effect, Israel continues to carry out attacks in Lebanon, and its forces occupy territory near the border.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah regularly claims attacks on northern Israel and against Israeli military personnel in southern Lebanon, including several attacks on Israeli forces on Saturday.
