Israel kills nearly 1,000 Palestinians since October, says UN rights chief

New York (ANTARA) - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has stated that Israeli forces have killed nearly 1,000 Palestinians since the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was announced in October. According to him, the majority of those killed were civilians. Speaking at the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council, Türk said Israeli authorities are pushing Palestinians into increasingly narrow areas and restricting the delivery of humanitarian aid. He added that in the West Bank, Israeli forces and settlers are accelerating the destruction of communities and the annexation of territory. He also revealed that Zionist forces have so far killed 57 people, wounded nearly 1,300, arrested hundreds, and issued 23 land confiscation orders. Türk stated, “A number of senior Israeli officials have spoken openly about expelling all Palestinians from Gaza, and eliminating the possibility of a viable Palestinian state. All of this is entirely illegal.”
