Israel Frees GSF Activists Thiago and Saif
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MARMARIS — The Zionist Israeli government has finally ended the detention of two Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) shipping leaders, Thiago Avila and Saif Abukeshek. The pair were released from Zionist detention cells on Sunday morning (10/5/2026) due to international civil pressure. Thiago and Saif have already been deported from Israel.
The Adalah Advocacy Team, which has been providing legal support to the Global Sumud Flotilla, stated that since this morning, they are no longer in prison cells. “Adalah has received official confirmation that the Global Sumud Flotilla leaders, Thiago Avila and Saif Abukeshek, have been released and deported, and are no longer in Israeli custody,” Adalah wrote in a press release received by Republika in Marmaris, Turkey, on Sunday (10/5/2026).
Adalah stated that although Zionist Israel has released Thiago and Saif, this does not mean that the human rights violations practised by the occupying authorities have been erased. Adalah emphasised that it continues to call on international bodies and sovereign states to firmly address the various violations of international law committed by Zionist Israel.
Adalah stated that Zionist Israel remains an entity that violates international law. They hijacked Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian ships in international waters near the island of Crete, Greece. The Zionists also kidnapped hundreds of activists and volunteers from the Global Sumud Flotilla shipping. Adalah said that this kidnapping was accompanied by various other violations, including violence and even sexual harassment.
The kidnapping carried out by the Zionists against Thiago and Saif was also accompanied by threats. While in detention since Wednesday (29/5/2026), the Zionists threatened to murder Thiago and Saif. The two were also threatened with imprisonment for 100 years. Inside the detention cells, Thiago and Saif also experienced various forms of torture during interrogation. Most importantly, according to Adalah, the international violations committed by Zionist Israel against Palestine.
