Israel Focuses on Pushing Iranian Citizens onto Streets to Overthrow Regime
The Israeli government is currently focused on efforts to encourage Iranian citizens to return to the streets in actions aimed at weakening the regime controlling the country and ultimately resulting in the overthrow of the government.
These efforts have been pursued following Israel, together with the United States, bombardment of various targets in Iranian territory since Saturday, 28 February local time.
An Israeli official, who declined to be named, stated as reported by AFP on Monday, 2 March 2026, that Israel “acts in its own way” to encourage Iranian citizens to take to the streets.
The Israeli official did not provide further clarification regarding which tactics Israel was using to encourage Iranian citizens to protest the ruling regime.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a statement following his country and the United States’ attack on Iran on Saturday, 28 February, called for regime change in Tehran and urged the Iranian people to unite against their government.
“The time has come for all the people of Iran… to cast off the chains of tyranny and realise a free and peace-loving Iran,” Netanyahu stated in a statement directed at the Iranian people on Saturday, 28 February evening.
“People of Iran, do not miss this opportunity. This is an opportunity that comes only once in every generation,” the Israeli Prime Minister said.
“Do not remain silent, because your moment will soon arrive. The moment when you must take to the streets, take to the streets in millions to finish the job, to overthrow the regime of terror that has made your lives miserable,” he stated.
Similar calls were also made by US President Donald Trump, who in his statement said that Iranians had a “great opportunity” to “reclaim” their country.
“To the great and proud people of Iran, I say to you tonight that the time of your freedom has arrived,” Trump stated in his statement.
“When we are finished, take control of your government. It will be yours. This is likely your only opportunity for several generations to come,” he said.
