Israel converts UNRWA school in Jerusalem into state school

Israeli occupation authorities have converted a school formerly managed by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in the Shu’fat refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem into a school run by the Israeli education department and the Jerusalem municipality. Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Aryeh King posted a video documenting the removal and destruction of the UNRWA signboard from the school building. King said the move was intended to “erase all traces or memory of UNRWA” and remove it permanently from Jerusalem. The Zionist Israeli regime occupying Palestine closed six UNRWA schools in Jerusalem in May 2025. As a result, around 800 Palestinian children lost access to education. In October 2024, the Israeli Knesset passed a law banning UNRWA activities in Israel.
