Israel Claims to Have Killed Hezbollah Intelligence Chief in Lebanon Strike

The Israeli military launched strikes against Lebanon following Hezbollah’s involvement in attacks that came after the death of Iran’s highest-ranking leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel claimed that the strikes killed Hussein Moukalled, the head of Hezbollah’s intelligence directorate.

According to Al Arabiya on Monday, 2 March 2026, Moukalled was killed in an Israeli strike on Beirut on Sunday. Israel was engaged in an armed confrontation with the Lebanese armed group at the time.

“The IDF now confirms that in a precision strike on Beirut last night (Sunday), the terrorist Hussein Moukalled, who served as head of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters, has been eliminated,” the military said in a statement on Monday.

Earlier reports indicated that according to an AFP correspondent based in Beirut, several loud explosions were heard in the Lebanese capital on Monday morning, local time, when the Israeli military announced that its forces had “begun striking terrorist organisation Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon”.

The Israeli strikes followed the launch of missiles and drones from Lebanese territory. This marked the first attack on Israel claimed by Hezbollah since a ceasefire agreement took effect in November 2024, which followed more than a year of conflict between the two sides.

On Monday, 2 March, the Israeli military released a statement announcing that its forces had “precisely struck” senior Hezbollah members in the Beirut area, and conducted another strike in southern Lebanon.
