Israel Bombs Beirut Again: Is Netanyahu Sabotaging the Impending US-Iran Peace Deal?

Israel on Sunday (14/6/2026) launched a new airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, coinciding with a series of attacks and forced displacement orders against Lebanese residents across southern Lebanon. According to a report by The Cradle, video clips and photographs depicted giant plumes of smoke in the targeted area within the Ghobeiri residential district. In its official statement, the Israeli armed forces said the strike ‘targeted Hezbollah infrastructure’ in Beirut. The attack on the Beirut suburbs followed Hezbollah drone operations against Israeli military sites in Galilee, which the IDF responded to with forced displacement measures and airstrikes on southern Lebanon. Tel Aviv described Hezbollah’s drone strike on a border military headquarters as a severe violation of the ceasefire. ‘Hezbollah launched a dangerous drone attack towards towns in northern Israel,’ said Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee via his X account. Adraee stated that Hezbollah drones struck the Shomera and Shlomi areas, with two additional drones falling in the Galilee region over the weekend. Adraee also threatened that Tel Aviv would ‘continue operations’ in Lebanon, hours after issuing forced displacement orders against residents in 29 towns and villages in southern Lebanon, including Jbaa, Ain Qana, Ansar, Kfar Sir, and Kawthariyet al-Riz. These displacement orders have resulted in the expulsion of thousands of residents from southern Lebanon. The Lebanese drone attacks were reported to be focused on targeting occupation forces inside southern Lebanon. Israeli officials are demanding Tel Aviv respond to every Hezbollah drone attack with airstrikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut. ‘The attack on the occupation residents in the north is a test for the ’Dahiye Doctrine’ declared by the Prime Minister. I ask him to implement it with determination and force and the destruction of buildings in Dahiye,’ said Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Saturday (13/6/2026).
