Israel Attacks Southern Lebanon, Ten Dead, Including Children

An Israeli air strike on the town of Deir Qanun al-Nahr in the Tyre district killed ten people, including three children and three women, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Three others were reported injured, including a child.

Earlier, the United States Department of State announced an extension of a 45-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. The extension was announced on Friday, 15 May local time, after the end of the third round of direct talks mediated by the United States.

The fourth round of talks will be held at the U.S. State Department on 2-3 June, according to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott. Although fighting continues between Hizbullah militants and Israel, the United States noted Beirut’s efforts and stance toward Hizbollah’s attacks.

“The United States remains aware of the challenges posed by Hizbollah’s ongoing attacks on Israel, without the approval or consent of the Lebanese government, which are being carried out to derail the process,” Pigott said, reported by AFP on Saturday, 16 May 2026.
