JAKARTA — The Indonesian government is monitoring the safety of Indonesian peacekeeping personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), as southern Lebanon comes under attack by Israel.

“The safety and security of peacekeeping personnel are the primary priority in the current situation,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its official website on Monday, 15 March 2026.

The government commended the Garuda Contingent serving with UNIFIL amidst the current conflict.

“(Indonesia) hopes that all members of the Garuda Contingent will be kept safe in carrying out their duties,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Indonesia has called on all parties to respect Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, to cease attacks endangering civilians and civilian infrastructure, and to return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and achieve peace.

The situation has intensified following Hizbullah’s attack on Israel in response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a combined United States and Israeli strike on Tehran.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported at least 826 people killed in the attacks, including 65 women and 106 children, with a further 2,009 injured.

An unnamed Hizbullah source stated that the group has prepared for what may be a prolonged conflict. According to the source, Hizbullah is now fighting Israel with all its strength, and added that the war will have only two possible outcomes.

“Hizbullah will be finished, or it will create a new situation involving the complete withdrawal of Israel from Lebanon and the end of its attacks,” the source told AFP.
