The approval of the death penalty law by Israel’s Zionist regime against Palestinian detainees represents a new escalation of long-standing systematic oppression practices in Palestinian territories. Prior to this approval, the Zionist Israeli regime has systematically, for years, murdered Palestinians in various prisons through severe torture and neglect of healthcare for detainees.

Aqsa Working Group (AWG) Presidium Chairman, Muhammad Anshorullah, stated that this policy further affirms the face of Zionist Israeli colonialism implemented through apartheid and racist politics to seize the rights to land and life of the Palestinian people, as well as to legitimise the taking of lives through morally and justly flawed legal instruments.

“This law is substantively flawed because it does not reflect principles of justice and equality before the law. In practice, the applied judicial system is discriminatory and racist, targeting the Palestinian people unilaterally, and ignoring the principle of fair trial,” said Anshorullah to Republika on Sunday (5/4/2026).

Thus, he explained that this regulation has the potential to become a legal instrument to perpetuate systematic genocide and ethnic cleansing practices against the Palestinian people.

According to AWG, this law opens the way for the execution of Palestinian detainees, most of whom are victims of an opaque military justice system rife with human rights violations. In many cases, Palestinian detainees, including children, are held without fair legal processes, subjected to torture, and denied adequate legal defence access.

“This policy cannot be separated from the long chain of violations carried out by Zionist Israel, including the genocide in Gaza, prolonged blockades, and restrictions and desecrations against Al-Aqsa Al-Mubarak Mosque,” he said.

Anshorullah emphasised that the legitimacy of this death penalty serves as evidence that the Zionist Israeli regime continues to perpetuate apartheid practices and crimes against humanity with repeated impunity.
