Israel has once again violated the ceasefire after resuming attacks on Gaza. The latest Israeli strikes killed 12 people.

As reported by AFP on Monday (16 February), despite the US-mediated ceasefire entering its second phase last month, violence has continued in Palestinian territory. Israel has persisted in launching strikes on Gaza.

On Sunday (15 February), Israeli attacks in Gaza killed at least 10 people within 24 hours. The death toll subsequently rose to 12.

The civil defence agency, which operates as a rescue force under Hamas authority, said one strike hit a displacement camp in northern Gaza whilst another targeted an area in the south.

Five people were killed and several others wounded when an Israeli airstrike targeted a displacement camp in Jabalia in the north. A further five were killed and several others injured in a separate morning attack on the city of Khan Yunis in the south.

The Gaza Civil Defence Agency reported one additional person killed by Israeli forces’ gunfire in Gaza City. Israeli fire also killed one person in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.

Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals confirmed they had received at least seven bodies.

“Israel does not understand ceasefire or peace,” said Osama Abu Askar, who lost his nephew in the Jabalia attack.

He said Gaza residents were being killed whilst they slept.
