ISPA and Rabies Cases Surge Following NTT Earthquake

Acute Respiratory Infections (ISPA) have become the most prevalent disease found following the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province. These cases are spread across seven affected regencies, including Nagekeo, Sikka, Manggarai, West Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ende, and Ngada.

“The most widespread disease distribution is ISPA, reaching 9,668 cases across seven regencies. There have even been 35 cases of rabies-related animal bites in Nagekeo, all of whom have fortunately been vaccinated,” stated the Head of the Health Crisis Centre at the Ministry of Health, Agus Jamaludin, during an online press conference on Wednesday (2_26_2026).

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, for the period of 15–25 August 2026, the distribution of disease cases included 9,668 cases of ISPA, 4,686 cases of hypertension, 1,017 cases of myalgia, 627 cases of trauma, and other related conditions.

As of this morning (26 August 2026), the death toll from the NTT earthquake has reached 105 people. There are 1,287 individuals with minor injuries treated as outpatients, 385 individuals with severe injuries requiring hospitalisation, and 185,131 displaced persons currently residing in 444 evacuation centres.

Additionally, at least five foreign nationals from China and Spain, who were affected by the earthquake, have been permitted to return home after sustaining only minor injuries.

The Ministry of Health has dispatched 206 volunteers from the Health Reserve Corps to six earthquake-affected areas in NTT to strengthen healthcare services for a period of 14 days.
