Ismeth Abdullah resigns

BATAM, Riau Islands: Ismeth Abdullah, chairman of Batam Authority, has officially resigned from his post, following a letter issued by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono accepting his resignation. Ismeth tendered resignation as he is preparing to run for the post of governor in the upcoming direct elections in Riau Islands province.

The president in his letter appointed as acting chairman of Batam Authority, Mustofa Wijaya, who is currently a deputy chairman of the Batam Authority, said Ismeth.

Ismeth said that he resigned from his post to maintain neutrality in the upcoming election in the Riau Islands. -- JP
