Islamic School in Demak Apologises After Viral Video of Drumband Dancer in Miniskirt
The management of MTs NU Mranggen in Demak Regency has spoken out after a video showing a female dancer in a miniskirt performing at an Islamic New Year celebration on the school’s grounds went viral on social media. The video, circulated by accounts including @beritasemaranghariini, shows the dancer wearing a long-sleeved white top and a light blue miniskirt, with her undergarments visible as the skirt rode up during the routine. Head of MTs NU Mranggen, Muhamad Abdul Kodir, confirmed the performance took place on Tuesday (16/6) during an event to welcome the Hijri New Year. He explained that 26 drumband groups participated, most of which were from the general public, and stressed that the viral performance was by a public drumband group, not by students from MTs NU or any other school. Kodir said the school had already taken anticipatory measures against inappropriate attire, but apologised for the commotion caused by the viral video and said the incident would serve as a lesson for future events.
