Forty leaders from Islamic community organisations and prominent Islamic figures met with former Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) at his residence in South Jakarta on Tuesday evening, 28 April 2026. Former General Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Din Syamsuddin, stated that the Islamic group expressed their desire to report Ade Armando, Permadi Arya alias Abu Janda, and Grace Natalie.

According to Din, the three are suspected of disseminating an incomplete video clip from when JK delivered a sermon at the UGM Mosque in March. “We are convinced they were the first to twist JK’s approximately 1.5-hour speech by taking about 48 seconds from an incomplete part,” he said after meeting with JK.

Din stated that the video clip led several groups to file complaints against JK with the police. JK was accused of committing blasphemy against religion.

According to Din, the parties who edited the JK video at the UGM Mosque have the potential to incite discord between religious communities. Therefore, Islamic ormas, through lawyers, will report the three. “Because they committed slander that cannot be tolerated. It must be resolved legally,” he said.

The plan is for the lawyers to report the three in April or May. He believes this step will be followed by several lawyers to support JK.

Previously, Jusuf Kalla delivered a sermon at the UGM Mosque in March 2026. He recently explained the content of that sermon.

According to JK, his statements about the conflicts in Poso and Ambon in the sermon were not intended to offend Muslims or Christians. “Only one or two minutes I spoke about conflicts due to religion, including Ambon-Poso. I did not talk about dogma,” he said at his residence in South Jakarta on Saturday, 18 April 2026.

JK said that in the sermon, he did not intend to corner any religion. According to him, both Islam and Christianity equally do not teach violence. However, in the context of the Poso and Ambon conflicts, the parties used religious legitimacy to justify violence. “There is no religious teaching that justifies killing each other, that is what I conveyed,” he said.

The Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (DPP GAMKI) and several other organisations had reported JK to the Metro Jaya Police over that sermon. Their reports were registered under numbers LP/B/2547/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, LP/B/2546/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, and LP/B/2550/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA dated 12 April 2026.

Recently, Ade Armando and Permadi Arya were reported to the Metro Jaya Police for alleged incitement and provocation related to the JK sermon video. The complainant was the Maluku Professional Advocates Alliance (APAM). The report was registered under number LP/B/2767/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA on 20 April 2026.

Paman Nurlette, APAM representative and complainant, told reporters at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday, 20 April 2026. Nurlette took issue with the impact of the posts by Ade Armando and Permadi on social media. He stated that the two had uploaded the Jusuf Kalla sermon video at UGM, but the edited version. They uploaded it through the Cokro TV YouTube channel and Permadi’s Facebook account.

According to Nurlette, the posts caused uproar and unrest in the public sphere. It was also seen as sparking negative views and hatred between religious communities, as well as attacking the dignity of former Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
