Islamic Organisations Gather, MUI Emphasises the Importance of National Unity
JAKARTA - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Iskandar, emphasised the importance of reinforcing national unity during a national silaturahim and halalbihalal event attended by dozens of Islamic community organisations (ormas), alongside the government and representatives from friendly nations.
“Alhamdulillah, today all Islamic ormas in Indonesia, with memberships ranging from thousands to millions, have gathered with the government and ambassadors from friendly countries to strengthen unity,” said Anwar in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026), quoted from Antara.
He noted that diversity in ethnic, religious, and political affiliations does not hinder the Indonesian nation from remaining united.
According to Anwar, the halalbihalal occasion serves as an expression of gratitude for the blessings of national unity and prosperity.
“This unity must continue to be safeguarded because there are still many tasks to be accomplished in advancing the nation across various aspects of life,” Anwar stated.
Meanwhile, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar conveyed his appreciation for MUI’s support of government initiatives, particularly in strengthening Indonesia’s role on the international stage.
According to him, Indonesia continues to promote the resolution of various global issues through a dialogue-based approach.
He added that the support from ulema serves as crucial motivation for the government in forging international cooperation to foster world peace.
The government, he said, will continue to prioritise dialogue diplomacy in various global forums as an effort to find solutions to shared international challenges.
“Support from the Majelis Ulama for the steps taken by the Indonesian Government in international forums fosters dialogue among nations to create resolutions for the international issues we face,” the Minister stated.
