PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Divisi Regional I Sumatera Utara recorded high public mobility during the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah national holiday, which fell on Tuesday, 16 June 2026. Although the holiday was not accompanied by a collective leave day, public interest in using rail transport remained positive. As of 11:00 WIB on Tuesday, the number of passengers had reached 7,414, with further increases expected due to remaining afternoon and evening departures. Cumulatively over two days — Monday, 15 June, and Tuesday, 16 June — KAI Divre I Sumut served 14,967 passengers, comprising 7,553 on 15 June and 7,414 recorded by midday on 16 June. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Divre I Sumut, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, stated that trains remain a popular choice because they offer safe, comfortable, punctual travel free from road congestion. He noted that the high enthusiasm for rail travel during this holiday demonstrates that trains continue to be a reliable mobility solution for intercity travel in North Sumatra. Anwar added that the optional Sribilah train service connecting Medan and Rantauprapat has resumed operations to accommodate passenger demand and provide alternative travel schedules. He also urged all passengers to maintain order and comply with regulations at stations and during journeys to ensure shared comfort, safety, and security.
