The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Persatuan Umat Islam (PUI) views the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah as a momentum for Indonesia to migrate towards becoming a resilient nation and an inspiration for facing various challenges. DPP PUI Advisor Prof Achmad Tjachja Nugraha stated that the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina was not merely a geographical relocation, but a civilisational journey imbued with values of sacrifice and optimism in building a just, prosperous, and dignified society. “The journey of hijrah teaches us that great change is not born from comfort, but from the courage to face challenges with faith, knowledge, and hard work,” he said in an official statement on Monday (15/6/2026). He noted that these values are highly relevant for Indonesia. Prof Tjachja said Indonesia is currently facing significant challenges, such as global economic uncertainty, the rapid advancement of technology, and issues of food and energy security, as well as the challenge of maintaining national unity and character. Therefore, drawing on the spirit of the Prophet Muhammad, who built Medina on the foundations of unity, justice, and the economic empowerment of the people, Indonesia must adopt this spirit. “Indonesia requires a collective hijrah, a migration from dependency to self-reliance, from a consumptive culture to a productive one, from division to unity, and from corruption to integrity,” he said.
