PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 4 Semarang, Central Java, recorded high public mobility during the Islamic New Year 1448 H long holiday period from 12 to 16 June 2026. Based on provisional data as of 16 June 2026 at 08.00 WIB, the number of passengers boarding and alighting at Tegal Station reached 24,543, comprising 12,036 departures and 12,507 arrivals. The movement pattern shows a relatively balanced distribution of mobility between outbound and inbound flows, dominated by intercity travel for tourism, family visits, and social activities during the extended holiday.

KAI Daop 4 Semarang Public Relations Manager, Luqman Arif, stated that the travel trend during this period reflects high intercity connectivity, particularly at Tegal Station. “Public mobility during this year’s Islamic New Year long holiday shows a stable and balanced pattern between departure and arrival flows. This illustrates the high intensity of travel by people both leaving and heading to Tegal,” Luqman said on Tuesday (16/6).

During the period of 12 to 16 June 2026, passenger volumes at Tegal Station were recorded as follows: Friday, 12 June 2026: 5,445 passengers (2,723 departures, 2,722 arrivals); Saturday, 13 June 2026: 5,934 passengers (2,777 departures, 3,157 arrivals); Sunday, 14 June 2026: 6,142 passengers (3,106 departures, 3,036 arrivals); Monday, 15 June 2026: 4,427 passengers (1,853 departures, 2,574 arrivals); Tuesday, 16 June 2026: 2,595 passengers (1,577 departures, 1,018 arrivals).

Several major stations within the Daop 4 Semarang region remained hubs of passenger movement during the long holiday transport period, with the five highest stations detailed as follows: Semarang Tawang Station: 65,902 passengers (32,781 departures, 33,121 arrivals); Semarang Poncol Station: 45,303 passengers (23,102 departures, 22,201 arrivals); Tegal Station: 24,543 passengers (12,036 departures, 12,507 arrivals); Pekalongan Station: 17,518 passengers (8,728 departures, 8,790 arrivals); Pemalang Station: 8,766 passengers (4,387 departures, 4,379 arrivals). The dominance of Semarang Tawang and Semarang Poncol stations reinforces their role as the main connectivity centres for rail travel on Java’s northern line.

To accommodate high demand, KAI Daop 4 Semarang operated an average of 33 long-distance train journeys per day during the long holiday period. Additionally, KAI provided a total of 86,318 seats, or an average of 17,334 seats per day, to ensure public transport needs were optimally met. During this long holiday, various train services serving passengers at Tegal Station, ranging from economy to executive class, were the public’s main choice for intercity travel. Some of the trains favoured by passengers included: KA Kaligung, KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Kamandaka, and KA Menoreh. The high level of passenger interest demonstrates that the railway remains a reliable mode of transport, with advantages in comfort, punctuality, and ease of travel planning. Favourite destination cities for passengers during this period included Pasar Senen (Jakarta), Surabaya Pasar Turi, Gambir (Jakarta), Solo Balapan, and Purwokerto. This reflects strong connectivity between major cities and supporting areas, particularly for tourism and family visits.

KAI Daop 4 Semarang continues to ensure all services run safely, comfortably, and under control during the Islamic New Year 1448 H long holiday transport period. Operational readiness, rolling stock inspections, and improved station services are top priorities. “KAI is committed to maintaining smooth operations and ensuring passengers can travel safely, comfortably, and on time. We also urge passengers to arrive at the station early and comply with all applicable regulations,” concluded Luqman.
