Former Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Din Syamsuddin, has called for the unity of the Muslim ummah to condemn Israel’s and the United States’ attacks on Iran. According to Din, the attacks lack any justifiable reason.

“They lack any justifiable reason from the perspective of international law because they aim to undermine another country’s sovereignty,” he stated during a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, and several Islamic figures at Din Syamsuddin’s residence in South Jakarta on Friday, 3 April 2026.

Din assessed the attacks as a humanitarian tragedy. Moreover, the strikes occurred while Muslims in Iran were observing the Ramadan fast. “Furthermore, the targets included children and women. According to Islamic war ethics, this is prohibited,” Din remarked.

Din stressed that the United States’ and Israel’s attacks on Iran must be rejected and opposed. He also referred to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as sources of global problems. “They must be regarded as common enemies by all peace-loving and justice-seeking people of the world,” he said.

According to Din, the calamity befalling the Iranian people is also a calamity for Indonesian society. Therefore, Iran and Muslims worldwide need to unite to revive Islamic civilisation. “Moreover, Iranian Muslims have historically played a significant role in developing and advancing Islamic civilisation during the medieval centuries,” he added.

Din also expressed hope that Iran would win this war. He stated that Indonesian society wishes to continue cooperation with Iran in both education and economic fields.

Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, extended thanks to Din Syamsuddin, who serves as Chairman of the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations (CDCC). According to him, Din has made significant contributions to promoting regional and global peace efforts.

Boroujerdi viewed the meeting as an opportunity to form an alliance or association to oppose the war against Iran or other countries. The meeting was attended by several Islamic figures, including Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council’s Advisory Board, Muhyiddin Junaidi, and General Chairman of the Central Leadership of the Indonesian Muslim Women, Marfuah Musthofa.
