Islamic Cleric Accused of Abuse at Sealed Boarding School Named Suspect and Detained
A mass organisation in East Java named Yakuza Maneges sealed an Islamic boarding school in Bululawang District, Malang Regency, in connection with alleged sexual abuse. Police have revealed that the cleric accused of abusing students has been named a suspect and detained.
“The status is already under investigation, a suspect has been named, and the suspect has been detained,” Malang Police Chief AKBP Muhammad Taat Resdi told reporters, as quoted by detikJatim on Monday.
Resdi has not yet detailed the specifics of the case. The investigation is being handled by the Women and Children Protection Unit.
“This is indeed a case related to moral offences. So I apologise that I cannot provide much detailed information. However, generally speaking, the case is currently in the investigation process by the Malang Police PPA Unit,” he stated.
Resdi said the suspect came to the Malang Police station to present the chronology of the case. He stated that the legal process is proceeding according to applicable regulations after investigators received the suspect’s statement.
“The suspect, who at the time was still an alleged perpetrator, cooperatively came to the Malang Police station. Not picked up, not chased, but came on his own to the Malang Police station and presented the chronology of the matter,” he emphasised.
