A team from Pekalongan City Police has arrested the leader of an Islamic boarding school (ponpes) in Buaran District, Pekalongan Regency. The ponpes leader was arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing several female students.

“Yes, today we arrested the suspect, who is one of the founders of an Islamic boarding school within the jurisdiction of Pekalongan City Police, located in Pekalongan Regency,” said Pekalongan City Police Chief AKBP Riki Yariandi, speaking at the Criminal Investigation Unit of Pekalongan City Police, as reported by detikJateng on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Riki explained that authorities had launched an intensive investigation after receiving reports from victims who allegedly experienced sexual violence. To date, six victims from various North Coast regions, including Semarang, have come forward.

He added that the case was initially difficult to uncover as victims were afraid and allegedly faced intimidation, making them reluctant to report. Police then approached the victims’ families, leading some to come forward with statements.

“Victims were previously unwilling to report due to possible threats from the perpetrator or other students. Our officers conducted outreach, which encouraged them to speak up,” he said.

Police confirmed several victims and witnesses have been interviewed, including former students from outside the area such as Pemalang, Batang, Pekalongan, and Semarang.
