Islamic Boarding School Leader in Jambi Under Police Investigation for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Students
A leader of an Islamic boarding school, identified by the initials AF (37), in Lubuk Madrasah Village, Tengah Ilir District, Tebo Regency, Jambi, is being interrogated by police regarding alleged sexual violence against several female students under his care.
The case is currently being handled by the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Tebo Police Criminal Investigation Unit. According to gathered information, AF is suspected of committing sexual violence against at least seven students since 2023. One of the victims was reported to have become pregnant and has since given birth.
Tebo Police Chief AKBP Triyanto confirmed that the case is currently under investigation. However, he has not provided detailed information as the investigation results are still being finalised. “The release is still being corrected, please be patient,” Triyanto stated when confirmed on Sunday (7/6).
The case came to light after two victims and their families reported the alleged crime to the Tengah Ilir Police Sub-district. Based on the reports and evidence obtained by investigators, AF was subsequently detained and taken to the Tebo Police Headquarters for further questioning.
Investigators are currently conducting in-depth examinations, interviewing victims and witnesses, and collecting additional evidence to strengthen the case construction. Police are also tracing locations within the boarding school grounds where the alleged sexual violence is believed to have occurred. According to police sources, the alleged acts took place at various locations within the school premises, typically at night when students were resting.
Investigators are still analysing all obtained statements to determine the total number of victims and the sequence of events. As of now, the police have not issued an official statement regarding AF’s legal status or the specific charges to be applied.
The case has drawn significant public attention in Tebo Regency. Residents have expressed deep concern, noting that the alleged actions by a school caretaker are deeply distressing, as educational institutions should be safe havens for students. “It is truly naive and shameful. If proven legally, law enforcement must impose the heaviest possible punishment on the perpetrator,” said Erwin, a resident of Tebo Regency.
Tebo Police have ensured that the investigation will be conducted professionally, prioritising the protection of the victims. The police have also noted the possibility of other victims who have not yet come forward as the investigation continues.
