Islamic Boarding School Forum Calls for Funeral Prayer for Victim Abused by Brimob Member
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, INDRAMAYU – The Forum of Islamic Boarding Schools (FPP) in Indramayu Regency, West Java, has strongly condemned the tragedy of the abuse of a santri (Islamic boarding school student) in Tual, Maluku. The santri was abused by a member of the Brimob (Mobile Brigade) until he died.
“On behalf of all members of the FPP Indramayu, we express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim,” said the Chairman of FPP Indramayu Regency, KH Azun Mauzun, to Republika, Wednesday (25 February 2026).
Azun added that, as a form of spiritual solidarity, FPP Indramayu calls on all Islamic boarding schools to perform the Salat Ghaib (funeral prayer for the deceased) and recite the Tahlil (prayers for the deceased) together for the victim.
He also expressed full support for the mass protest held at the Yogyakarta Regional Police headquarters as a form of demand for justice for the santri. Regarding the handling of the case, FPP Indramayu appreciates the swift action of the National Police in arresting the perpetrator and imposing strict sanctions in the form of dismissal. This step is considered a quick response that deserves appreciation.
“We have great hope that the case of police violence against santri will never happen again in the future,” said Azun.
To prevent similar incidents, FPP Indramayu urges the National Police to conduct regular urine tests on all its members. This is to maintain the awareness and self-control of personnel while on duty. The National Police is also asked not to hesitate to dismiss members who are proven to have violated the law if similar cases occur again in the future.
Azun added that, as a preventive and long-term development measure, FPP Indramayu suggests that the National Police initiate regular Islamic outreach activities within the police force. This program is expected to involve figures from Islamic boarding schools directly to equip the mental and spiritual aspects of National Police members so that they are more humane in serving the community.
“We appreciate the National Police for taking swift action in dismissing the perpetrator, but a total evaluation must still be carried out. We ask that no more santri become victims of violence by members of the authorities,” said Azun.
