A massive fire ravaged the Syekh Burhanuddin Islamic Boarding School in Kuntu Darussalam village, Kampar Kiri district, Kampar regency. The blaze was successfully extinguished after four hours.

Kampar Police Chief AKBP Bobby Putra Ramadhan Sebayang confirmed the incident, stating that the fire occurred in the student dormitory building. “The fire was brought under control approximately three to four hours after it started,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

The incident was reported on Monday (10/8) at around 20.00 WIB. The fire completely gutted the dormitory building. “The location that caught fire was the dormitory. There were no casualties because at the time of the incident, the students were performing Isya prayers at the mosque,” he added.

The police chief explained that the fire was first noticed by a student who had just finished the Isya prayer and saw flames emerging from the roof of the dormitory building. Another student who was inside the dormitory then alerted fellow students and they ran out, calling residents to help extinguish the fire manually.

Students and residents attempted to put out the fire by fetching water from a nearby bore well. They fought the blaze manually using buckets and basins while waiting for fire engines to arrive. A total of seven fire engines from the Kenegerian Ninik Mamak Lipat Kain, the Kampar Fire Department, and private companies in the vicinity were deployed. Dozens of personnel, including officers from the Kampar Kiri Police, participated in the operation. “By midnight, the fire was under control,” he said.

The police chief confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident, and hundreds of students at the boarding school were accounted for. “There were no casualties,” he stated. Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. The estimated loss amounts to Rp 3.04 billion. “A number of pieces of evidence related to the dormitory fire have been secured by the Kampar Kiri Police for further processing,” he concluded.
