Jakarta — The General Chair of the Central Board of the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI), Prof. Dr. Atwar Bajari, M.Si, has stated that communication can serve as a strategic instrument for safeguarding national sovereignty amid the global information flow.

“In the digital era marked by technological acceleration, information overload, and rising disinformation, communication plays a crucial role in protecting national sovereignty,” Atwar said through a press statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The statement was made during the inauguration of the Central Board of the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI) for 2026–2030, held at the Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Djayusman at the LSPR Campus.

The professor at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University stated that communication based on knowledge, ethics, and dialogue can serve as a bridge to strengthen national unity whilst building global peace.

“Communication scholars have a significant responsibility to ensure that the public communication sphere is filled not only by rapid information flows, but also by narratives that build, strengthen democracy, and enrich society,” said Atwar, who has been elected as General Chair of the Central Board of ISKI for 2026–2030.

Meanwhile, the inauguration of the new leadership for 2026–2030 is expected to be an important moment for Indonesia’s communication scholars’ community to strengthen the role of communication science in addressing various national and global challenges in the digital transformation era.

Under the theme “Communication for National Sovereignty and Global Peace,” the new ISKI leadership is expected to strengthen the strategic contribution of communication science in protecting the nation’s information sovereignty, strengthening national identity, and promoting constructive global dialogue oriented towards peace.

The inauguration of the new leadership also marks ISKI’s commitment to strengthening the role of communication scholars as important actors in social, political, economic, and cultural development.
