A strategically important nuclear facility operated by Iran in Isfahan Province has reportedly suffered severe damage following a coordinated missile attack launched by the United States and Israel, according to Iranian news agency ISNA.

“The location was attacked by missiles on 7 March and sustained serious damage,” ISNA reported.

Although the physical infrastructure at the site has been heavily impacted, no reports of radioactive contamination in the surrounding area have been made to date. The attack forms part of a large-scale military operation targeting vital points of Iran’s defence and technology infrastructure.

American and Israeli intelligence agencies claim that the majority of Iran’s nuclear fuel reserves are stored within an underground tunnel network in Isfahan, with the remainder distributed across bunkers in Fordow and Natanz.

In the initial phase of this escalation, US and Israeli military forces specifically targeted the entrance points to underground tunnels in Isfahan and Fordow. This measure was taken to block access in and out, to prevent Tehran from relocating or securing nuclear fuel stockpiles stored there.

As of the publication of this report, Iranian authorities continued to assess damage at the incident location. The attack has resulted in deaths and injuries among students and teachers in several provinces, including Minab, Fars, Ilam, East Azerbaijan, Tehran and Qazvin.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called upon Russia to support Iran’s legitimate rights at the international level following the US-Israeli attack. Internet blackouts in Iran have now reached 192 hours (9 days), with NetBlocks reporting that residents can only access limited domestic networks.
