Isbat Session to Determine Eid al-Fitr 2026 Held Today: Check the Schedule and Mechanism
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Isbat session to determine 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah or Eid al-Fitr Day 2026 is being held on Thursday (19/3/2026).
The government’s determination of the holiday through the Ministry of Religious Affairs will be based on astronomical calculations (hisab) and crescent moon sightings (rukyatul hilal) from hundreds of points across Indonesia.
The Isbat session will take place at the Auditorium HM Rasjidi, Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs RI, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta.
The stages of the Isbat session begin at 16:30 WIB, starting with an open seminar on the crescent’s position for the public.
Next, at 18:45 WIB, the main Isbat session will be held in closed session after Maghrib time.
In this session, participants will discuss the results of crescent moon sightings (rukyatul hilal) from various points in Indonesia and match them with hisab data.
Then, at 19:25 WIB, the Minister of Religious Affairs RI is scheduled to announce the results of the determination of 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah to the public.
Previously, Arsad Hidayat, Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Development at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, explained that the determination of Eid al-Fitr is carried out through the Isbat session mechanism as with other Hijriah month determinations.
“The determination process is carried out through deliberation considering hisab data (astronomical calculations) and rukyatul hilal results (crescent observations) from various regions in Indonesia,” said Arsad.
He added that the Isbat session is an official government forum involving various elements, from government, ulama, astronomy experts, to Islamic community organisations.
This forum aims to produce a comprehensive decision that serves as a joint guideline for Muslims in Indonesia.
In addition, the Isbat session also serves as a platform to match hisab data and rukyat reports from various monitoring points across Indonesia.
Based on hisab data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hisab Rukyat Team, the conjunction ahead of Syawal 1447 H occurs on Thursday (19/3/2026) around 08:23 WIB.
When rukyatul hilal is conducted on the same day, the crescent’s position across all regions of Indonesia is estimated to be above the horizon with heights ranging from 0 degrees 54 minutes 27 seconds to 3 degrees 7 minutes 52 seconds.
Meanwhile, the elongation angle ranges from 4 degrees 32 minutes 40 seconds to 6 degrees 6 minutes 11 seconds.
