IS3 technology designed to address blood exposure risks for healthcare workers
MedTech company B. Braun Indonesia has developed Introcan Safety® 3 (IS3) technology to address high blood exposure risks for healthcare workers, aiming to achieve zero blood contact. Rainer Ruppel, President Director of B. Braun Indonesia, stated: “The introduction of Introcan Safety® 3 reflects our commitment to bringing global safety innovations to Indonesia, protecting healthcare workers while supporting high-quality patient care”
IS3 is a next-generation intravenous catheter featuring blood control septum technology and automatic safety mechanisms that activate instantly upon use, reducing workplace incidents without requiring additional user steps. Passive safety features help hospital staff by minimising exposure risks while maintaining clinical workflow efficiency.
Referring to a systematic clinical review (Fereidouni et al., 2018), contact with blood and bodily fluids occurs far more frequently than other workplace incidents, with blood exposure during IV catheter insertion being 10 times higher than needlestick injuries, making it a critical occupational safety challenge in hospitals. “We are introducing new blood control technology to support a zero visible blood contact approach during routine procedures,” Ruppel added.
Dr. Masfuri, Chairman of the Indonesian Intravenous Access Association (INA-PERSAI), emphasised the importance of closed-system technology adoption. “Advancements in IV catheter technology set new standards for additional healthcare worker safety against blood exposure and reduce pathogen transmission risks to patients, significantly improving patient satisfaction and comfort,” he said. “This technology supports hospital efficiency and advances workplace safety standards.”
