Is the 2027 Hajj Cost Set to Rise?

The Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, has opened the possibility of an increase in the 2027 Hajj Organising Cost (BPIH). However, to date, Irfan has not disclosed the specific amount of the potential increase.

“There is a high possibility of an increase, but we are striving to ensure that if an increase does occur, it does not become a burden to our pilgrims,” he stated at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory, Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

According to Irfan, this potential rise is triggered by increasing components in the Hajj organising costs, ranging from aviation fuel prices and service fees set by the Saudi Arabian government to the weakening of the Rupiah against the US Dollar.

He added that the Saudi Arabian government has also upgraded services from Category D to Category C, which subsequently increases the cost of Hajj services. Moving forward, the government will discuss the guidelines for determining the BPIH and the Hajj Travel Cost (Bipih) with Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR), which serves as the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s partner.

Separately, the Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR, Marwan Dasopang, stated that a potential increase in Hajj costs is a difficult factor to avoid due to the surge in various cost components. The politician from the Nationalist Awakening Party (PKB) acknowledged that the upcoming challenges are significant.

“It is likely that Hajj costs will increase. This is a challenge that we must address together with the Indonesian people,” said Marwan after attending the 2026 Hajj evaluation national working meeting in Jakarta on Saturday, 3 July, according to a press release from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

According to Marwan, uncontrollable components, such as flight costs, are among the challenges in maintaining the BPIH. He claimed that they will seek the best solution to ensure pilgrims are not unduly burdened.

“Commission VIII, together with the Ministry of Hajj, will review all cost components. If it is still possible to maintain the current rates, we will certainly endeavour to do so,” said Marwan.

The 2026 Hajj Organising Cost (BPIH) was set at IDR 87.4 million per pilgrim. This figure represents a decrease of IDR 2 million compared to the 2025 BPIH, which stood at IDR 89.4 million. The determination of this year’s BPIH was agreed upon by the government and the DPR during a working meeting on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.
