Is Photocopying e-KTP Still Allowed? Here's the Explanation from Dukcapil
JAKARTA - The use of photocopies of electronic ID cards (e-KTP) is still permitted for administrative and public service purposes. However, the public is advised to exercise greater caution as the data in e-KTP constitutes personal information that must be protected. This explanation was provided by the official Instagram account of Dukcapil DKI Jakarta @dukcapiljakarta, following a press release from the Directorate General of Dukcapil under the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the clarification on the use of e-KTP. In its statement, Dukcapil noted that e-KTP is fundamentally equipped with an electronic chip that allows for digital verification processes without the need for physical documents. “Photocopies of e-KTP can still be used according to service needs, but must be handled responsibly while paying attention to personal data security,” wrote Dukcapil. Therefore, the use of e-KTP photocopies is actually being encouraged to be reduced in order to minimise the risk of personal data misuse. The Directorate General of Dukcapil at the Ministry of Home Affairs has also collaborated with around 7,500 user institutions, both government agencies and Indonesian legal entities, for the utilisation of population data electronically. This collaboration is intended to make administrative services run more securely, orderly, and practically without relying on physical documents. Dukcapil gave examples that e-KTP is still required for various services, such as hotel check-ins or other official identity needs. “The use of e-KTP photocopies, in principle, can still be carried out as long as it is in accordance with service needs and is implemented responsibly,” wrote Dukcapil. Thus, in principle, e-KTP photocopies are still allowed as long as they align with service requirements and are conducted responsibly. Misuse of personal data may be subject to criminal sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations. Therefore, the public is urged not to carelessly share or hand over e-KTP photocopies without clarity on the purpose and the receiving party. Dukcapil also emphasised that it will continue to strengthen the population administration service system to make it safer and protect public data.
