JAKARTA — The legal representatives for Nabilah O’Brien, owner of the Bibi Kelinci restaurant, plan to file for a pretrial review after her client was named a suspect in a defamation case connected to uploading CCTV footage of an alleged theft at her restaurant. The lawyer, Goldie Natasya Swarovski, said the designation as a suspect was inappropriate and that they would pursue a range of legal steps to overturn it.

‘And what shape will this pretrial challenge take? We will pursue it. We will use every available means to overturn our client’s status as a suspect and halt this investigation,’ Goldie told reporters on Friday, 6 March 2026.

One of the steps is to submit a request for a special case hearing to the Investigation Supervisory Bureau (Wassidik) of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim) and Internal Security (Paminal) of the National Police’s Propam Division.

‘If you ask what legal avenues we will pursue, all of them. We will pursue every possible measure for our client. We have written to Wassidik requesting a special case hearing, and I hope the Wassidik Bureau will review this objectively,’ she said.

Goldie explained that Nabilah had been named a suspect after uploading footage from a surveillance camera showing an alleged theft at her restaurant. In the video, a married couple enters the restaurant’s kitchen area and berates a staff member.

The video was posted on social media. According to Goldie, the post was made by her client in the public interest to prevent similar incidents from occurring elsewhere.

‘Our client has not committed any criminal offence. There was no malicious intent to defame anyone,’ Goldie asserted.

Earlier, on 24 February 2026, two individuals identified by initials ZK and ERS had already been named suspects by the Mampang Prapatan Police over the alleged theft at the restaurant.

The incident began when ER and ZK visited Bibi Kelinci on Friday 19 September 2025. They claimed dissatisfaction because their food order took longer than expected.

Owner Nabilah O’Brien explained that there had been a surge in orders, which delayed serving times.

‘This woman entered the kitchen, which is forbidden, berated my head chef and threatened to ram-raid my restaurant,’ Nabilah said in a post on her Instagram account, @nabobrien.

After the incident, the two alleged perpetrators also assaulted the head chef and a pregnant employee.

Based on the printed receipts, the restaurant’s losses were estimated at Rp530,150.
