Is it True That One Must Wait Three Months to Change BPJS Kesehatan Primary Healthcare Facilities?

BPJS Kesehatan remains committed to providing accessible healthcare services for all JKN participants. This commitment is demonstrated through the expansion of healthcare facility networks, the strengthening of digital administrative services, and facilitating ease for participants to adjust their Primary Healthcare Facilities (FKTP) according to their domicile.

BPJS Kesehatan Public Relations Head, Rizzky Anugerah, stated that BPJS Kesehatan now collaborates with 23,723 FKTPs. Fundamentally, JKN participants can change their FKTP according to their needs, but such changes are regulated through specific mechanisms to ensure that healthcare services remain continuous.

“The FKTP is the main gateway for participants to obtain healthcare services. Therefore, the transfer of FKTP is regulated so that continuity of service is maintained, allowing medical personnel to monitor participants’ health histories more optimally. On that basis, participants can generally request a change of FKTP after being registered for at least three months at their previous FKTP,” Rizzky said in a written statement on Friday (31/07/2026).

According to Rizzky, this provision is not intended to limit participants’ access to healthcare. On the contrary, the policy is designed to maintain the quality of service while ensuring the distribution of participants across each FKTP remains proportional so that services can be provided optimally.

Nevertheless, Rizzability understands that public mobility is increasing. Therefore, participants who move due to work relocation, new assignments in other regions, or following family members to a new domicile can still request an FKTP change without waiting for the three-month period.

“BPJS Kesehatan wants to ensure that participants continue to receive easy access to healthcare services wherever they are active. Therefore, participants who meet certain criteria can request an FKTP change earlier to ensure they can still access easily reachable primary healthcare,” Rizzky explained.

In addition to facilitating FKTP changes, BPJS Kesehatan ensures that participants can still receive healthcare services when they are outside their registered FKTP area. Participants can utilise services at other FKTPs collaborating with BPJS Kesehatan for a maximum of three visits per month. In emergency conditions, participants can immediately receive services at any healthcare facility according to medical indications.
