Is 18 February Still a Lunar New Year Holiday? Check the Three Ministers' Joint Decree

Today and tomorrow are holidays commemorating the Lunar New Year. The public has been enjoying a long weekend since last Saturday.

According to the Three Ministers’ Joint Decree on National Holidays and Collective Leave for 2026, the Lunar New Year holidays fall on:

• Monday, 16 February 2026: Collective leave for Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili
• Tuesday, 17 February 2026: National holiday for Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili

Accordingly, 18 February 2026 is not included in the Lunar New Year holiday period. The Lunar New Year holiday extends only until Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

Nevertheless, 18 February 2026 marks the beginning of the early Ramadan break for schoolchildren. This is in accordance with the Joint Circular Letter of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, the Minister of Religious Affairs, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Number 5 of 2026, Number 2 of 2026, and Number 400.1/857/SJ, concerning Learning During the Month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE.

According to the circular, the schedule for learning outside educational institutions, or early fasting break for school pupils, is as follows:

• Wednesday, 18 February 2026: Learning outside educational institutions
• Thursday, 19 February 2026: Learning outside educational institutions
• Friday, 20 February 2026: Learning outside educational institutions
• Saturday, 21 February 2026: Learning outside educational institutions
