Irregularities Found as KPK Staff and Father Used Deleted Messages in Pemalang Case
The Corruption Eradability Commission (KPK) has identified irregularities within the short messaging application of a National Police officer, Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto, who serves as an administrative staff member at the KPK. Investigators found that Dias used a 24-hour auto-delete feature for messages exchanged with his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, in connection with the case involving the Regent of Pemalang.
Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated that the team discovered the use of the timer feature specifically for conversations with Lilik, whereas messages with other contacts, such as KPK colleagues, did not use this feature. The investigators believe these messages may contain evidence regarding money transfers from Lilik to Dias. “We have secured the mobile phone belonging to suspect DIS [Dias], and our investigators found an irregularity. To illustrate for the press, our analysis shows that the conversation between DIS and LBS [Lilik] always utilised a deletion timer,” Taufik said at the KPK Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday night.
Taufik explained that this finding strengthens the evidence of alleged extortion committed by Dias and Lilik against the Regent of Pemalang, Anom Widiyantoro. Other evidence includes witness testimonies and records of transfers or gifts received from Lilik. While Dias frequently accompanies the leadership of the KPK in his daily duties, Lilik is a member of a non-governmental organisation (NGO). According to the KPK, Lilik exploited his son’s position to obtain information regarding case handling to approach and extort regional heads.
One piece of information provided by Lilik to the Regent involved an ongoing KPK investigation into alleged bribery regarding projects and the sale of positions within the Pemalang Regency Government. Believing that the suspects could resolve the legal issues, the Regent subsequently provided various sums of money.
The KPK has detained four suspects in this alleged corruption and extortion case in the Pemalang Regency, Central Java. The suspects are the Regent of Pemalang for the 2025-2030 period, Anom Widiyantoro; his trusted associate, Mohamad Haris (alias Gus Haris); the KPK administrative staff member, Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto; and Dias’s father, Lilik Budi Suprianto. The detention period is set for the first 20 days, from 30 July to 18 August 2026, at the KPK Red and White Building detention centre. Anom and Haris are charged under Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law, while Lilik and Dias are charged under Article 12 letter e of the Anti-Corruption Law.
