Irony of Harassment by 16 FHUI Students: Legal Violations in a Place of Learning Law
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Sixteen students from Universitas Indonesia (UI) are alleged to have sexually harassed a female student at the faculty.
The alleged harassment went viral on social media in the form of conversations with sexual undertones in a social media group.
Ironically, the act was committed by students from the Faculty of Law at UI, who are currently studying all aspects of the law.
The Chair of the Faculty of Law Student Executive Board (BEM FH UI), Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, stated that all the perpetrators are students from the 2023 intake.
“The apology was conveyed by the 16 perpetrators. And regarding their status, they all admit to their actions,” Dimas said when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday.
“So actually, for us, there is already their admission; they are the perpetrators, no longer alleged perpetrators,” he emphasised.
Dimas explained that the apology was conveyed by the alleged perpetrators on Saturday (11/4/2026) leading into the early hours of Sunday (12/4/2026).
The sixteen students conveyed the apology openly through the class group without clear context.
Then, a few hours later, there were several posts on social media explaining the background of the apology and the actions taken by the 16 individuals.
The perpetrators conveyed the apology first, before news of the alleged sexual violence went viral on social media platform X.
“The perpetrators sent messages that were jokes and, apologies, and also degradations of the dignity of friends in FH. Most of it was in the form of messages that demeaned, with a sexual nuance,” said Dimas.
Based on the investigation conducted by BEM FH UI, the members in that second social media group numbered 16 people.
“So far, those in that group are 16 people,” Dimas stated.
When asked whether the alleged sexual violence was also carried out via photos, Dimas admitted he could not confirm it yet.
Because what is circulating currently is still snippets of chats from the perpetrators’ LINE and WhatsApp groups.
“After further examination later, we can know more about how they carried out the sexual violence,” he continued.
When asked about the number of victims of the alleged sexual violence, Dimas also could not provide detailed information.
“I cannot confirm it yet, and I cannot publicise it either, considering the importance of security for the victims,” he said.
“So far, these perpetrators have been dismissed from every organisation and committee they were involved in,” he added.
