Iron Fence Stolen, East Jakarta Parks Agency Repairs Kampung Melayu Park

The East Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency (Sudin Tamhut) is repairing a park under the Kampung Melayu flyover in Jatinegara after its iron fence facilities were stolen by irresponsible individuals.

“We are currently repairing the damaged park,” said Head of East Jakarta Sudin Tamhut Dwi Ponangsera on Tuesday.

He stated that the repairs are being carried out to maintain the condition of the park and ensure it can be used comfortably by the public. In addition to the repairs, Sudin Tamhut East Jakarta is also taking anticipatory measures and coordinating with various related parties to prevent similar incidents.

“For anticipation, we have coordinated with the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and Jatinegara District to increase security around the location,” Dwi said.

According to him, securing public facilities is an important part of maintaining the function of green open spaces. With more optimal supervision, it is hoped that government assets in the park can be protected from theft or vandalism by irresponsible parties.

“I will check the stock first,” Dwi added.

Meanwhile, the fence repair, involving around ten task force members, began on Tuesday, starting with cleaning the foundation, as much of it was damaged and the iron within the cast concrete was also largely missing. It is known that the entire fence, spanning approximately 100 metres, has disappeared, leaving only the iron corner posts used as fence hooks.

The repair work is targeted for completion within one month, as the agency must first prepare the materials to eventually install a perimeter fence about one metre high.

Previously, residents had complained that the iron fence at the park under the Kampung Melayu flyover had been stolen over the past four days. A local resident named Ana (38) said the fence was still intact a week ago but disappeared rapidly over three to four days. She claimed to have seen a group of perpetrators carrying tools such as crowbars and hammers to detach the iron fence. After being dismantled, the iron was immediately loaded onto a bajaj that was waiting nearby.
