The South Sumatra Police (Polda Sumsel) has strengthened public safety and order guarantees through a stern ultimatum to street criminals, particularly muggers causing public concern. South Sumatra Police Chief Irjen Pol Sandi Nugroho stressed that there is no room for street criminals within Polda Sumsel’s jurisdiction. ‘There is no place for muggers in South Sumatra. We have instructed all field personnel to take strict but measured action if suspects resist or threaten the safety of officers or the public,’ said Irjen Sandi in a statement on Sunday, 24 May 2026. Irjen Sandi has directed all police units, from the provincial to district and precinct levels, to enhance routine patrols, secure high-risk areas, and take strict but measured action against criminals endangering public or officer safety. These professionally measured repressive measures implement the Kapolri’s Presisi policy, aligning with the President’s priority programs to maintain national stability, support the investment climate, and ensure safe and smooth social and economic activities. The strengthened patrols and rapid police response directly protect citizens active at night and early morning. A conducive security environment is crucial for maintaining social stability, bolstering community economic resilience, and supporting regional development. Meanwhile, South Sumatra Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol Nandang Mu’min Wijaya confirmed that all police units are fully deployed for patrols and the 110 Call Center across Polda Sumsel’s jurisdiction. ‘The public should not hesitate to report crimes via the 110 Call Center. The service operates 24/7 as part of the police’s rapid response to protect citizens. We are committed to fully supporting government programs for public welfare by ensuring a safe and stable security environment,’ he said.
