Irian to have athletic school
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The government is to establish three
schools for sportingly gifted children in the next few years,
Antara reported yesterday.
One of the schools will be built in Western Indonesia, another
in Central Indonesia, and the third in the eastern part of
Indonesia. Funds will be provided by the Ministry of Education
and Culture, according to the deputy chairman of the National
Sports Council, Arie Sudewo.
The government allocated Rp 11 billion (US$4.7 million) in the
1996/97 fiscal year to improve the facilities in Ragunan High
School in Jakarta, a school which caters for gifted young
athletes. (swe)
