IRGC: Two US Fighter Jets Destroyed in Attack on Jordan Airbase

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that at least two American fighter jets were destroyed in a missile and drone attack on the Al Azraq Airbase in Jordan. The IRGC stated that the strike, part of the 20th wave of ‘Operation Nasr 2’, also targeted aircraft parking areas and was conducted in retaliation for what it described as American crimes.

In a coordinated action, the IRGC reported that its forces also struck a fuel support pier used by the US Navy at the Al Ahmadi Port in Kuwait. The military organisation further confirmed that attacks were directed at fighter jet deployment points at the Sheikh Isa Airbase in Bahrain.

These strikes mark a significant escalation, following a series of US operations against Iran that began on 8 July. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) had previously stated those operations were a response to Iranian actions against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The situation deteriorated further on 9 July when US President Donald Trump declared that a ceasefire agreement with Iran was no longer in effect.
