IRGC shoots down US drone over Iranian territorial waters

Istanbul (ANTARA) – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has shot down an armed US military MQ-1 Predator drone that flew over Iranian territorial waters, according to state-run IRNA news agency.

In a statement cited by IRNA on Sunday, the IRGC said the drone entered Iranian airspace during a ‘hostile operation’.

The drone was detected and shot down by Iran’s advanced air defence system after crossing territorial waters.

‘An aggressive MQ-1 Predator drone belonging to the US military, which entered Iranian airspace over territorial waters with the intent to conduct hostile operations, was identified and destroyed by IRGC’s modern air defence missiles early Sunday morning,’ the IRGC stated.

The IRGC warned that Iran would respond firmly to any aggressive actions.
